Use the docs with AI

This guide shows how to connect the official walt.id documentation server so an assistant can search and read the public docs.

The server speaks Model Context Protocol over Streamable HTTP at https://docs.walt.id/mcp. It covers Concepts, the Community Stack, and the Enterprise Stack. It is read-only and does not call walt.id APIs.

Pick one stack before writing integration code. The Community Stack and the Enterprise Stack use different base URLs, paths, and auth. Start with Community vs Enterprise, or ask the assistant to run the pick-community-or-enterprise prompt.

What you can ask

The server exposes five tools:

  • search_waltid_docs — keyword search, with an optional stack of concepts, community, or enterprise
  • get_waltid_doc_page — raw markdown for one page
  • get_waltid_llms_index — the llms.txt page index
  • list_waltid_openapi_specs — links to the public OpenAPI documents
  • get_community_vs_enterprise — the stack comparison

It also publishes llms.txt and the Community and Enterprise text bundles as MCP resources.

Connect Cursor

Open this install link in Cursor:

cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=walt.id%20Docs&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2RvY3Mud2FsdC5pZC9tY3AifQ%3D%3D

Or add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "walt.id Docs": {
      "url": "https://docs.walt.id/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Connect Claude

Add a custom connector with the remote URL https://docs.walt.id/mcp. No API key is required. The tools are read-only and serve public documentation.

Connect ChatGPT

Add https://docs.walt.id/mcp as a custom MCP server in ChatGPT. No authentication is required.

Custom MCP servers are only available on some ChatGPT plans, and workspace admins may need to enable them first. See Developer mode and MCP apps in ChatGPT for the current steps.

Connect VS Code Copilot

Add the server to .vscode/mcp.json in your project, or to your user MCP config:

{
  "servers": {
    "walt.id Docs": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://docs.walt.id/mcp"
    }
  }
}
